AmandaJane and Roscoe

Mother, Herbs, Dogs, Nature.

I am a working mother of one son, Gideon and one dog, Roscoe. They are my drive for life. I love hiking and being outdoors and hope to inspire people to go out and have adventures with their dog!

Planet of the Apes, Animal Welfare at its Core

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, with James Franco, comes to DVD today.  I've always enjoyed a good Sci - Fi especially ones that involve animals.  I love seeing how different our world can be because of science, radiation or the unknown crashing into our planet.  Rise was awesome!  I really liked the way they built up the storyline and the ending was fantastic.  My mind knew the animals were CG but I still had a hard time watching certain scenes.  This movie really makes you think about what animals go through in their own private existance and how we affect them.

Rise really got me thinking about a few topics:

BlogPaws 2011 - Women Speakers of Inspiration

I had the good fortune of attending this years BlogPaws conference. I found out about the affair the way all good things come to you, the internet, of course. I saw the conference and joined blogpaws.com. The list of speakers was phenomenal in the animal and social marketing kingdom. I consumed a worlds worth of information and met an incredible bunch of people. People who are passionate about pets, rescue and education. There were several women who made an impression on me. I get excited thinking of these ladies and what I gleaned from them. When I was a girl the only job I knew of that worked with animals was a vet. Now there's a whole new world of opportunity to help animals and these women are making it work.

Carol Bryant of Fidose of Reality was the first speaker that I met. She radiates warmth and interest in others.

Egg on My Face and Dogs Like Eggs

Having a dog is hands down one of the best (continuing) experiences of my life.  They bring you joy and lift lonliness away.  They teach you how to love and take care of another being.

I wasn't expecting my dog to school me so much on this particular feeling though:Embarrassment! The funny ( and occasionally aggravating) part about this is that dogs are usually oblivious to the fact that they just made you look stupid in front of an amused crowd.

Here are some of the most embarrassing scenarios I've had over the last 10 years:

1. For aproximately 4 years, even after 2 obedience classes, no one would sit within 4 chair lengths of us at the vet because Roscoe was so "excited" to be there. I literally had the only dog who would drag me through the office when his name was called because he couldn't wait to get treaties from the Doc.

2.  Getting knocked down Charlie Brown style in the back yard in front of friends.  Complete with feet in the air and the AAAARRRRRGGGGHHH sound.
